The CBS was created in 1993 as one of the main research centres dedicated to structural biology in France. It benefits from joined supports from the Inserm, CNRS and the University of Montpellier I and now also University of Montpellier 2.
In addition to its main scientific programs, the CBS maintains advanced scientific services and methodological platforms opened to the whole scientific community. As such it was one of the first platforms dedicated to structural biology labeled by the RIO and then IBISA programs.
In parallel, the CBS manage the “Plate-forme Integrée de Biologie Structurale” in association with the UMS BioCampus (http://www.biocampus.cnrs.fr/).
The Center aims to develop interdisciplinary research at the interface of biology, chemistry and physics.
Structural biology at the CBS include:
- NMR spectroscopies
- protein crystallography
- structural bioinformatics
- electron microscopy.
- various biophysical techniques (UV-CD, DSC, …).
Otherwise, high-resolution fluorescence microscopies are made accessible through the French BioImaging infrastructure.
